Today Jeffery wants to tell us all the best way to choose an organic mouthwash. As you all know, I'm working towards a more green life, so this couldn't be a more perfect topic for me!

How to Choose an Organic Mouthwash

If you’ve made the decision to go organic (or at least, start going that way) you’ve probably found that buying stuff is a bit more difficult than it used to be.  Gone are the days of just heading to the grocery store and grabbing whatever was the cheapest or looked the coolest.  Everything seems to require extensive research.  And of course, one of those things is your mouthwash.

Going organic with mouthwash is a pretty fantastic idea.  There are a ton of great reasons why and you’ll likely notice your oral health improve a fair bit.  Picking products can be a bit crazy though – that’s why I threw together this nifty little guide.

Going Organic

First, let’s take a step back.  What are these coveted benefits of going all-natural with your oral rinse?  Below we’ve got the short list.

  1. The Burn: Traditional mouthwash can burn like literal fire.  Going non-alcoholic will keep this from happening.
  2. Chemicals: Pursuing a natural option can weed out some of those nasty chemicals like SLS, carrageenan and artificial sweeteners.
  3. Dry Mouth: Alcohol will more often than not cause issues with dry mouth.  Removing it can help significantly.
  4. Bad Breath: Often times traditional mouthwashes focus on masking bad breath as opposed to eliminating it.  Going organic will help to kill the bacteria that actually make your breath stink.
  5. Cruelty Free: If you’re worried about animal testing and byproducts, you’ll likely find much more attractive alternatives with natural mouthwash.
  6. Swallowing: If you or someone you know has issues with swallowing mouthwash, going organic can help to remove that risk entirely.

Top Products

Below are my top picks for organic and all natural oral rinses.  Each product has a specialty, so look through and find which one works best for you.

JASON Natural Healthy Mouthwash

This mouthwash is probably my favorite overall organic option – it pretty much has anything you’d want for a standard post-brush rinse without all the stuff you don’t want.  It’s alcohol free, cruelty free, and utilizes aloe vera and tea tree oil.  Together these ingredients make for a fantastic and totally natural experience.

If JASON’s oral rinse focuses on anywhere in particular, it’d be your gums.  You’ll still find it protecting your teeth pretty well though.  Another major bonus is the cinnamon flavor.  I hate the fact that 95%+ of all oral care products use a mint flavor.  The departure from that towards cinnamon is golden in my eyes.

TheraBreath Fresh Breath Oral Rinse

If you’ve ever struggle with bad breath then you should absolutely try out TheraBreath’s mouthwash.  It’s pretty much what I suggest on all my guides for an oral rinse that gets rid of bad breath.  Almost everyone who’s tried it out has had fantastic things to say about it.

On top of being amazing for eliminating the stink, it’s totally natural too.  It doesn’t use any preservatives or alcohol and is cruelty free, gluten free, vegan and even kosher.

Auromere Ayurvedic Mouthwash

If you hate mint like I do (see above) then Auromere’s Ayurvedic Mouthwash is a nice (but surprising) departure.  The licorice flavor was a bit off-putting at first, but after a week or so I got used to, and even began enjoying, the very bold flavor.

The huge thing that Auromere brings to the table is that you can swallow it with no consequence.  That said, I don’t advise you to do so – it might upset your stomach a bit.  If you’ve got anyone under your care who has issues swallowing their oral rinse though, you can rest assured that no major health issues will come from swallowing Auromere’s mouthwash.  Along with that, it utilizes 23 different botanical extracts along with 9 different essential oils to protect your mouth.

The Natural Dentist Mouthwash

The Natural Dentist Mouthwash is one of the premiere oral rinses for treating gum disease and promoting gum health.  Many users have reported staggering results as to how much healthier their gums have become after using this oral rinse.  Some even claim it works within a few days.

Alcohol free and made with Aloe Vera, it’s completely natural as well.  It may only focus on one area of your mouth, but it does that job pretty darned well.

Wrap Up

Along with continuing to regularly brush with toothpaste and using floss (or a water flosser), switching to an organic based mouthwash can help your oral health in major ways.  It can help you get rid of that terrible burning sensation, protect yourself from a variety of unwanted chemicals and even improve dry mouth and bad breath.  Make sure to do your research though – picking something that works best for you is the most important part.  If you do that, you’ll be well on your way to an overall healthier smile.
