Spring Style - Upon a Lovely Little Life

It’s Wednesday which means it’s time for another guest post! This week we have Samantha from Upon a Lovely Little Life. Samantha has a brand new adorable baby girl named Charlotte, as well as her 4 year old fur baby. She lives in Oregon with her hubby, who is her middle school sweet heart… you don’t see love like that too often! Between blogging and being a new mommy Samantha is finishing up work on getting her teaching degree and credentials and she will graduate next June! She is the sweetest and I’m so happy to have her on the blog today!

Spring is finally upon us, plus according to that amazing little groundhog it’s due to come early! So ladies it’s time to get our closets ready for this change in weather. The sun will be out more and the temperatures start to rise, and our outfits should reflect this exciting (and always much overdue) change. I’ve compiled for you a list of spring essentials which can easily be mixed with items you already have, plus can be layered with winter essentials to combat those stubbornly cool days.

A Transitional Dress

Find a dress that can easily be worn with tights or your tall leather boots (that you’ve probably been living in all winter), but also looks cute with your favorite sandals. You should also be able to layer a jacket and a sweater over it. Having a dress this versatile will give you plenty of different styling options plus you won’t freeze when the temperatures refuse to rise. Look for something in spring colors or prints like a fun floral or stripe. The key to making this work for layering isn’t the color but rather the shape and length.

Floral Scarves

No matter how hard we wish it spring is not always as warm and sunny as we hope it to be, so being able to bundle up in a scarf can be a necessity. In order to keep you in the spirit of spring why not do it with a bright floral scarf! There are a ton of different options out there and as an added bonus floral print is super easy to mix prints with (try it with striped tee for a guaranteed win).

White Jeans

We went all fall and winter (or maybe not for us rebels out there) without wearing white, and now is the time to break out those white jeans! These are a great neutral which will brighten up almost everything in your closet and effortlessly bring your wardrobe into spring.

Full Skirt

This is a super popular trend at the moment and it is perfect for spring plus as a bonus it will transition flawlessly into summer. Hello, couldn’t you just see yourself strolling through the farmer’s market, bouquet in hand in one of these gorgeous skirts? These are great for moms, as well, that have little ones running around because the length allows for easy bending down to catch those little munchkins before they bolt down the hall.

Denim Jacket

Okay so in my opinion this is really a closet staple that can be worn year round, but I definitely wear mine the most in the spring. Look for a great fit in a medium wash so that it will go with more. This jacket looks great over a dress, with a skirt, or paired with colored or patterned pants and denim. This time of year I literally think I wear mine at least 3 times per week! A denim jacket is light enough that you won’t get too warm but is just enough to fight off those cool breezes.

Again another classic essential that every woman should have, but specifically for spring I recommend getting one or two in your favorite spring hue. Personally I live in my coral one from Loft a few years back, but I’ll admit I may have a slight coral addiction. A lightweight long sleeve cardigan is so easy to just throw on and head out the door, and a brightly colored one just elevates your entire look (and mood usually).

Chambray Shirt

Have a printed skirt that you have no idea what to pair it with? A chambray shirt will match! Colored denim that just doesn’t seem to work with a thing in your closet? Chambray to the rescue! Stuck in a rut with your maxi skirt? Front tuck some chambray and you’re set! But seriously a chambray (preferably button up) is such a great multi-use piece that can be worn buttoned up or even open with a patterned tee underneath. Another style tip is to wear it buttoned up over a dress with a cute tie at the bottom. I promise you will get your money’s worth by the end of the first month of owning it.

Maxi Skirt

Alright so let’s be honest here really quick, in early spring we haven’t quite jumped on the whole “shave your legs almost every day” bandwagon. Enter the maxi skirt! You can feel light and spring-y and no one will ever know that underneath that beautiful skirt are very hairy legs! As a great bonus for us moms if you find one in a jersey material it will feel like you’re wearing pajamas all day! This is one of my favorite things to wear for the spring too because I don’t feel like I’m going to freeze plus I have super pasty white legs until at least late June.

I personally love my cognac pair because they literally go with everything in my closet. Flats are great because they keep your toes warmer than sandals but they’re not boots so they are a welcome change! I recommend at least getting one neutral pair so that you get the most wear out of them, but you have room in your budget look for a striped or floral print pair to mix into your wardrobe.

Lightweight Long Sleeve Blouses

Having a selection of a great long sleeve blouses, both in solid and prints, will make this seasonal transition a piece of cake. They look great with jeans (and much more put together compared to a tee and require the same amount of effort) plus you can tuck a blouse into a skirt for those warmer days. I love having great blouses that I know I love for spring because it makes getting dressed quick and easy with no mess of laundry on the bed from picking out my outfit, but I still feel stylish.
